Why Chavurah?
Chavurah is a Hebrew word that means "fellowship of friends." Chavurah groups are monthly or in some cases weekly times for friends to come together for fellowship, deeper study of the Scriptures, book studies, praying for one another, and sharing meals together. This is in keeping with the model of the first Messianic Jewish community in Jerusalem. We are told in the Brit Chadashah (the New Testament): "They devoted themselves to the teaching of the Shlichim (Apostles) and to the fellowship, to the breaking of bread and to the prayers...They broke bread in their homes and ate together with glad and sincere hearts praising God..." (Acts 2:42, 46-47). Tikvat presently has the following chavurot:
